Intro to Lyra
Intro to Lyra is a carefully crafted series for students who have never touched a Lyra or students wishing to refine their Lyra foundation.
In our 6 week beginner-focussed series you will build body awareness, increase your confidence while challenging yourself, and most importantly having fun! We will conditioning targeted muscle groups essential to safe Lyra practice, and learn foundational poses and transitions. and by the end of the 6 weeks, you'll have experienced a taste of the many different facets Lyra can offer.
There are no prerequisites for this class. What are you waiting for?!
We currently offer Lyra instruction for Beginners only in a series format.
Graduates from this series are encouraged to repeat often until they are ready with instructor recommendation to move up to Lyra L1. See next class description for prerequisites.
Lyra L1
This intermediate level class is for those who are more comfortable with the lyra, can mount and dismount comfortably on their own, and have basic upright posts they can transition easily to and from. In addition to richer, deeper conditioning, you’ll increase your repertoire of aerial poses and transitions and work on all levels of the Lyra - top, bottom, and middle. Discover interesting shapes, poses, and combine them your way as you get more comfortable with our magical hoop!
Prerequisites:
Must be able to mount the lyra one way without help, and move comfortably between foundational beginner poses such as Mermaid, Cradle, or Man on the Moon, unassisted.
Lyra L2
This intermediate level class is for those who can mount and dismount comfortably without instructor assistance, and can connect multiple foundational upright poses with ease. Conditioning intensifies in this class as we ramp up for span set work and introduce spinning to our practice.
This class will assist in increasing your repertoire of aerial poses and transitions. At this level, in addition to instructor-led combos, you are also expected to build your own mini-sequences. Discover interesting shapes, poses, and combine them your way as you get more comfortable with this apparatus.
Prerequisites:
Comfortable mounting the apparatus 3 different ways to a sit
Dismounting without using momentum
Solid double knee and hip hang
Front balance, hands can touch Lyra but not push weight on it
Comfortable with stringing together 3-4 basic poses
Lyra 2/3
In this advanced level we focus on building endurance, and expanding your repertoire of combos and poses. We spend a lot of time above the lyra working on and in the spanset, as well as exploring new ways to slide and drop back down to the bottom bar.
It’s recommended for students who have been in Lyra 2 for several months. Students will build their aerial repertoire with more challenging poses, passes, and movement. Conditioning and flexibility are a focal point and become increasingly important in deeping your lyra practice. Get ready to really fly!
Prerequisites. Must meet Lyra 2 requirements plus:
Solid single knee hang
Ability to hold your straddle layback comfortably with no hands
Lyra Flow
In Lyra Flow we concentrate on quality of movement and connecting sequences and shapes that you have learned in your leveled Lyra classes. This class will give you the tools and the confidence to start exploring your own movement style. Guided assignments and skills provided by your instructor will help you connect your head with your body, and deepen your lyra experience. This class is not for beginners, but is aimed at Lyra 2+ students and Lyra 1 students who have know how to mount and do 8-10 transitions and poses on their own.
Prerequisites. Must meet Lyra 1 requirements
Aerial Apparatus Rotation
This is an intermediate level class is for those who are comfortable mounting a lyra or climbing a pole and want to explore other aerial skills. You will cross-train across different aerial apparatus: tissue, hammock, lyra, and Fly Pole. We'll mix it up every week! Along with aerial conditioning, you’ll build a solid foundation for aerial movement and learn basic poses and transitions.
We recommend being familiar with at least one apparatus and how to cleanly mount/dismount that apparatus of choice.
Aerial Conditioning
In this class you will use a variety of conditioning exercises essential muscle groups on a variety of aerial apparatuses.
We utilize aerial hammock, Lyra, silks/fabric, and fly pole!
Aerial experience is NOT required, but be prepared to sweat! We highly recommend leggings for this class, and a snug-fitting shirt that your torso. No clothing with zippers (trust us.) Jewelry must be removed prior to class.
Fly Pole
This intermediate level class requires prior aerial and/or pole experience. further description to come!
